FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

SHOOTINGS IN SCHOOL: Unfortunately, once again a school shooting is in the news. Another terrible situation that affects all of us in one way or another. Some students are talking about it at school, and we will talk with them if appropriate, however, we feel parents need to talk to their child as well when at home. USD 211 continues to do what we think is best in protecting students while at school. We are currently installing additional door locks on all our doors. Staff has been involved in training this year to help us act accordingly if a situation were to occur in our community. HOWEVER, no matter what we train for, and how much we do, it may not be enough. We want to insure to parents we will do what we can to protect our children at EES in any situation to the best of our ability.

PARENT / TEACHER CONFERENCES: There will be no school on Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 at Eisenhower Elementary. Parent / Teacher conferences will be held this day for students in grades EC-6. Please be sure to make child care arrangements this day. ALL parents are invited to visit with the classroom teacher but CONFERENCES WITH ALL PARENTS WILL NOT BE SCHEDULED. If the teacher wishes a conference, he/she will be contacting you. This contact may be by phone or letter. A time which is compatible with your schedule and which will allow more time for visitation will be arranged. If you wish a conference with the teacher, please do not hesitate to contact the teacher for an appointment.

STATE TESTING SCHEDULE:
As soon as the teachers finalize their testing schedule, we will post it in the newsletter for parents.
It is important for parents to send their child to school during this time to take the tests. Encourage your child to take the test serious, and do the best they can. This is an important part of the school year and we want the students to feel refreshed, relaxed, and confident of their ability to be successful on these very important State assessments. Thank you for your support.

BOXTOPS: BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION is a great way to earn extra cash for our school. If you have been saving your box tops, please send them to the library soon, so we can count them in this submission. Thank you to everyone who collects the box tops, we appreciate your effort! We are looking at purchasing a new water fountain strictly for water bottles from the cash earned from the box tops. We are planning on sending them the first of March to the company to cash in.

DROP OFF: A reminder for parents/ guardians dropping off their child(ren) in the morning to NOT use the Eisenhower Drive. The same procedure goes for picking up students in the afternoon. Please use extreme caution around the school. Thank you for your understanding in this situation.

WALKING TO AND FROM SCHOOL: We are asking parents to remind their child(ren) the importance of safety when walking to and from school. Please talk to your child(ren) about not talking to strangers in cars and never to approach a vehicle for any reason. We cover this subject some in school, but for the safety of the students, we need to have parents reinforce this with their own children. Thank you very much for this and if you have any questions, please contact the office.

TEXT MESSAGES: USD 211 offers a program that parents, students, or anyone else in the community can receive, and it is made possible by the generosity of Solutions North Bank. This service makes it possible for you to receive school alerts and emergency information as text messages on your cell phone or as e-mails on your PC. USD 211 uses this service, (in addition to area television and radio stations) to announce late starts and closings. In order to receive these text messages, it is necessary that you sign up to receive them.
To sign up for this service is fast and easy, but does require the use of a computer with Internet access. Go to the USD 211 homepage at www.usd211.org, click on Resources Tab, then click on BlueJay Alerts Textcaster and then follow the onscreen instructions. There is NO CHARGE for signing up for the service; however, you should check your cell phone plan, as there may be a charge to you for receiving a text message.
This is a spam-free application and your name and personal information are protected and will remain private.

BEST CHOICE: The school is now collecting Best Choice labels that are found on cans and other food products in our local grocery stores. The Best Choice labels are found by the barcodes on these products. We are going to use the labels to purchase additional alternative seating for our classrooms. Save them for us and we will send them off at the end of the year. Best Choice labels are found on a lot of the products, so please help us out in this activity to secure funds for our alternative seating in our school. Best Choice labels do not replace BoxTops as we will continue to do BoxTops as well for our school.
Thank you for your help and support in this matter.
