I want to introduce myself. My name is Phil Wilson, and I am the new Superintendent of Schools for Norton, USD 211. I am so excited to be here and working in the Norton Community Schools.
I want to share with you a little information about myself. I am originally from Plains, Kansas. I attended Kansas State University. I received my Master’s Degree at Fort Hays State. I finished my certification for superintendent at Pittsburg State University. My wife Deb and I met at our first teaching position at Brewster, Kansas. We have three grown children.
I have spent over 35 years in education. Most of those years have been in western Kansas. I started my teaching and coaching career in Brewster but also spent time at Stockton, Moscow, and Russell, all in the western part of the state. I have spent the past 14 years at Washington High School in Washington Kansas. I was the 7-12 principal there.
My goal is to improve communication and relations, not only with our patrons but with our area businesses. We seek input from our area businesses to help us in providing a well-rounded student at graduation. We are not just looking at the student’s grades and test scores, even though they are important, we are also looking to help students interview well, get to work on time, and know how to communicate in a positive way with others. We want them to be well rounded and successful in all phases of their life.
I want Norton Community Schools to be a model school for not only northwest Kansas but for the whole state. I am very excited to be here and to see the interest and pride that our patrons have in their school. I know that our faculty and staff will do their very best to provide an excellent educational opportunity for our students.
I have an open door policy and I hope that you will feel free to stop by and visit with us here in the district office! Remember that we are always here to do what we feel is best for kids.
