4-8-16 Newsletter

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
SPRING TIME: We are asking parents to help remind their child that when walking to and from school to be cautious about any animals they might encounter on the route. Springtime brings out little critters that may have been hibernating over the winter and are now out on the move.
PLAYGROUND: The playground is often used after school and on weekends by the public. Often times at recess, students find droppings from dogs that come to the playground. We ask that if you bring your dog to the playground, or to the school, to please clean up after them.
TRANSITION TO JUNIOR HIGH: The sixth grade students at Eisenhower are going to be involved in activities over the month that will help them become more familiar with the Junior High. Parents will be involved in some of these activities. One of the first activities will be the parent meeting scheduled for Monday, April 25th, 2016 starting at 7:00 PM in the music room at the Junior High.
DRESS CODE: On page 15 of the parent/student handbook there is information about appropriate dress for students. This is the time of year that some students may inadvertently wear shorts or other clothing that may be too short or inappropriate for school. If a student wears clothing that may be deemed inappropriate by a teacher, staff member or the administration, you will receive a phone call for a change of clothing. The school is asking that you monitor what your child is wearing to school.
CROSSWALKS: Please encourage your children to use the crosswalks at all times. At dismissal time, there are some students, along with their parents, not using the crosswalks, by walking between the cars that are parked in the school parking lot. This is not a safe practice. The teachers and I talk to students about this safety issue, but it helps to have parents support this as well.
Beginningin a couple of weeks is the Hwy 36 project that will last through the summer and into the beginning of the next school year. It will affect the crossing area between Garden Gate Floral and Dairy Queen. Crossing guards will still be on site during the appropriate hours, but the actual crossing area may be moved up to 100 yards in either direction according to what part of the Hwy they are working on. Students will need to find the crossing guards to be escorted across the street during this time.
PUBERTY CLASSES: The fifth graders will be viewing the puberty/personal hygiene DVD on Wednesday, April 27th, (Girls) and Thursday, April 28th(Boys). The girls will view the “Always Changing – for Girls” DVD with Nurse Streck. The boys will view the “Always Changing – Boys DVD with Nurse Streck. The girls and boys will also have separate time on that day with Joan Bolt for worksheets, vocabulary, and basic facts. On Monday, April 25th, parents/guardians may preview either DVD with Nurse Joan at 12:00 – 12:20 (boys DVD) or 12:30 – 12:50 (girls DVD) in the Art Room. Each preview time will include an opportunity for Q and A with Nurse Streck. Please complete the permission form and return to your student’s teacher by Tuesday, April 26th.

SUMMER BIRTHDAYS: If your child celebrates his/her birthday during the summer, arrangements have been made for a specific day to celebrate the months of June, July and August birthdays. June birthdays will be held on Monday, May 2nd, 2016. July birthdays on Monday, May 9th, 2016.
