9-14-15 Newsletter

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
SIGN IN SHEET: We are asking people who come to the school to not only pick up a visitor’s badge but to also sign in at the front desk. This helps us keep track of who is in the building at any given time. We would like to thank you for your help in this matter. IF you have any questions, please contact the office.
GO EDU STAR: If parents would like to monitor their child’s progress, they can contact the elementary office and receive a password that will enable them to access their child’s work at school.
GIRLS BASKETBALL: Just a reminder that basketball for the fifth and sixth grade girls will begin on Monday, September 21st. Cheri Brooks will be conducting the practices and will be getting information to the girls in the near future.
CBM’s: We have completed the first of three rounds of CBM testing during the first week of school. The students did a nice job coming to school, taking tests, and adjusting to their new grade. The second round of CBM’s will take place in January and the final round will be late April or early May. CBM’s help provide some of the data we need to use for the placement of students in MTSS.
MTSS: We started the MTSS process the third week of school using CBM data from last May, as well as new data, to place students in appropriate groups for instruction. When USD 211 dismisses school early because of MTSS, the staff meets, examines new data, and moves students to different groups for the appropriate support. This is an on going process that we will be involved in all year long. We want to thank the parents for working with the school on our early dismissals, as this time is valuable to our staff to be able to work together in the best interest of the students in our school.
SCHOOL PICTURES: School pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015. If parents have younger siblings, you can bring them before school starts and we will take their pictures before the rest of the students begin.
TITLE 1 PARENT MEETING: This meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 29th at 5:30. This is a chance for kids to exchange some of their books from home for other books. It is a great idea and we hope to see lots of students and parents in attendance.
EMERGENCY DRILLS: Eisenhower Elementary practices on a regular basis, fire drills and when appropriate tornado drills. We will also do a couple of early season lock down drills with our staff and students. In preparation for the lock down drills the office will tell the students what to do, and classroom teachers will discuss why we need to do these drills. If parents have questions on any of these types of drills, please contact the office and we will do what we can to answer your questions. It would be helpful if parents took a little bit of time to explain to their child(ren) why the school takes these precautions during the year. Thanks for your time in this matter.
TITLE MATH/READING: Here are two simple ideas to help children with their reading and math skills, as suggested by the Title 1 Math/Reading instructors at school.
Reading—–Look for appropriate word and reading games online to play with your child.
Math—Have your child measure ingredients for a recipe you are making.

If a parent has questions on how to help their child do better with their Math and Reading skills, they can contact Mrs. JaLynn Urban or Mrs. Lynn Hehn at school for suggestions and ideas.
