FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

WELCOME BACK: It is wonderful to be back to school working with your children. The school looks forward to a great second semester of school activities. During the second semester of school, we will be spending time with the students preparing them for the State assessments we are required to take. As the semester progresses, this newsletter will provide more detailed information on what parents can do to help students prepare to take the tests, and when the tests will be taken.

CBM TESTING: On Monday, January 14th and Tuesday, January 15th the students at Eisenhower will be taking the second round of the CBM’s. It is scheduled for two days to give the test, but if there is any delay, we will extend into Wednesday.

JANUARY INSERVICE: On Monday, January 21st, the district will have In-service for all staff members. There will be NO SCHOOL for students on this day. This is an early reminder so childcare arrangements can be made. School will resume on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019.

BEHAVIOR: Just a reminder that in order for everyone to be able to enjoy the basketball and wrestling at junior high and high school events, we need to remember to not run up and down the bleachers, and continue to demonstrate good sportsmanship. Running up and down the bleachers is not only disruptive, but is very dangerous to small children close to the steps. We also need to look out for older spectators who support our teams, but have some difficulty with the steps. Please continue to remember to be courteous and respectful to all, and enjoy the games. GO BLUEJAYS!

COLD WEATHER: This is a friendly reminder that in this cold weather to send your child to school with gloves and hats. Thanks to some generous donations to the school in recent years, we have extra hats and gloves in the office for children to use to go outside for recess.

KANSAS BIRTHDAY: Eisenhower Elementary will be celebrating the 158th birthday of the State of Kansas on Tuesday, January 29th, 2019.

SPELLING BEE: The Eisenhower Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday January 16th, 2019 in the school cafeteria at 2:00 in the afternoon. Students in grades 4-6 are currently taking preliminary tests to determine the four students from each classroom who qualify for the school wide competition. Parents of the students competing are encouraged to attend and watch.

VOCAL CONCERT: An early reminder that the 1st and 2nd grade vocal concert will be held on Monday, February 4th, 2019 at 7:00 PM. at the East Campus. The students will practice at East Campus on Friday and Monday at 12:30 in the afternoon.

WRESTLING TOURNAMENT: Norton will be hosting a LEAGUE wrestling tournament on Friday, January 25, 2019. It begins at 1:00 in the afternoon. School will be dismissed for students at 1:00 on that day. Buses will run accordingly. This tournament rotates to different schools each year, and this year it is Norton’s year to host it. Staff will still work in the afternoon.
